Keystone team members and senior advisors possess decades of private markets investment experience. Our team has performed due diligence on hundreds of private market investments and managed over $5 billion in private market commitments throughout their careers. Keystone professionals collaborate and assist one another on transactions, but are also expected to challenge the analysis and conclusions of fellow team members.
Mr. Earl is a co-founder of Keystone and Managing Partner of the firm. He is active in investment selection, due diligence, and the general management of the firm. Mr. Earl was previously a senior investment banker with Lehman Brothers. While at Lehman Brothers, Mr. Earl was active in evaluating and executing a broad variety of direct investment opportunities and monetization strategies including initial public offerings, secondary equity offerings, recapitalizations and company sale transactions. Prior to joining Lehman Brothers, Mr. Earl held previous investment banking and structured finance positions at Dillon, Read & Co., Inc. and Credit Suisse.
Mr. Nielson is a co-founder of Keystone and Managing Partner of the firm. He is active in investment selection, due diligence, general firm management, and is a member of Keystone’s investment committee. He was previously Managing Director of Regional Investment Partners, a Dallas-based private equity research firm focused on identifying and benchmarking the nation’s top small and lower-middle market buyout funds.
Mr. Nielson previously served as a Vice President at Partners Group, a global alternatives investment manager which currently has in excess of $20 billion in private equity, private debt, and other alternative investment programs. Based in the firm’s New York office, Mr. Nielson played a key role in building Partners Group’s U.S. presence and in identifying and performing due diligence on U.S. investment opportunities, including buyout fund investments, secondaries, and direct co-investments. He later worked at Partners Group’s headquarters in Switzerland where he helped launch the firm’s Transaction Services business and was active in private equity structuring and fund formation.
Prior to Partners Group, Mr. Nielson worked for the accounting firm KPMG and earned his C.P.A. license.
Mr. Allen is responsible for Keystone’s accounting and legal affairs and oversees the firm’s financial reporting and regulatory compliance. Prior to joining Keystone, Mr. Allen was a corporate securities attorney at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto, California, where he represented public and private companies on corporate governance initiatives and in a broad range of corporate transactions, including venture capital and private equity investments, secured lending, mergers & acquisitions and public offerings.
Mr. Allen previously managed the financial reporting and accounting affairs of an elite language technology and localization service provider. He is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in California and is a member of the State Bar of California and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Jackson is focused on creating value for investors within Keystone’s real estate focused transactions. Mr. Jackson previously served as Vice President with Nearon Enterprises, a private real estate investment firm located in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he was responsible for all aspects of real estate investment including acquisition and debt sourcing, investment due diligence, leasing, asset management and asset disposition. Mr. Jackson was directly responsible for the investment and development of over 1.5 million square feet of Industrial, Office, Retail and Multifamily assets in the San Francisco Bay Area and Salt Lake City markets.
Heston is responsible for various aspects of Keystone’s due diligence, structuring and legal review on real estate related investments. Prior to joining Keystone, he was General Counsel and Director of Acquisitions for a large family office where he managed real estate and private equity investments, including the acquisition of distressed loan portfolios, commercial real estate assets, and other investments. He holds a J.D. from California Western School of Law and a B.S. degree from the University of Utah.
Mr. Chan is a Principal at Keystone and is active in the origination, structuring, and execution of direct credit investments and asset acquisitions. He leads Keystone’s quantitative analysis work on prospective investments and is also involved in the monitoring of portfolio companies.
Prior to joining Keystone, he was a Vice President at Citigroup Global Markets’ Principal Investments and Securitized Products Group, where he made private equity investments in specialty finance companies and executed asset portfolio acquisitions. He began his career in investment banking over fifteen years ago in the Fixed Income and Derivatives Division at Credit Suisse First Boston.
Mr. Johnson is involved in the sourcing, underwriting and monitoring of Keystone’s investment platforms. He oversees the single family residential platform and is involved in various other private credit and real estate transactions. Previously Mr. Johnson lead various financial reporting and accounting functions for the firm. Prior to joining Keystone, he worked in the assurance practice at Ernst & Young where he focused on public company audits and transactions. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Thorn is focused on investor relations and business development across Keystone’s clients. Prior to joining Keystone, Mr. Thorn was an Associate Director with LGT Capital Partners (USA) Inc., a global multi-alternative investment management firm, where he was responsible for all aspects of investor relations and business development within the United States. Before LGT Capital Partners, he was a Principal with ABS Investment Management LLC, based in Greenwich, Connecticut where he marketed ABS’s global equity long/short funds. Mr. Thorn began his career with BNY Asset Management as an Associate focused on Consultant Relations. He holds a B.S. in Finance and International Business from Northeastern University. Mr. Thorn has earned the CAIA Fundamentals of Alternative Investments Certificate and also holds FINRA Series 3, 7, 63 and 30 licenses.
Mr. Calder is involved in the sourcing, underwriting and monitoring of Keystone’s investment platforms. Prior to joining Keystone, Mr. Calder led various operation and business development initiatives for consumer products and technology businesses. Mr. Calder was previously an Associate at a private equity firm and an Investment Banking Analyst with Deutsche Bank Securities. Mr. Calder received an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a B.A. degree in Economics from the University of Utah.
Mr. Williams manages various financial reporting and accounting functions for the firm. Prior to joining Keystone, Mr. Williams worked as a senior manager with Ernst & Young’s Financial Services Office, where his primary focus was on retail banking and private equity fund audits. Mr. Williams also spent time in industry working as a controller and director of accounting for a broker-dealer and mortgage servicer, respectively. Mr. Williams is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Winder is responsible for various aspects of Keystone’s accounting and financial reporting affairs. Prior to joining Keystone, Mr. Winder worked in the assurance practice at Deloitte & Touche where he completed audits for both public and private clients within the investment management, life insurance, manufacturing, and public utility industries. Throughout his time at Deloitte & Touche, he conducted audits on over $2 billion in debt and equity investments.
Mr. Winder is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Clifford’s responsibilities include underwriting, monitoring, and portfolio management of various real estate investments. Prior to joining Keystone, Mr. Clifford was a Portfolio Manager/Underwriter in the commercial real estate lending group of a large regional commercial bank, with experience lending nationwide across all asset types. Mr. Clifford graduated with honors from the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University, where he was a team captain of the varsity basketball team.
Ms. Mattson manages operations for Keystone and is active in investor reporting and other back-office functions. Prior to Keystone, Ms. Mattson worked in the development office of a large university.
Ms. McKenney’s responsibilities include assisting in due diligence documentation gathering, company research, reviewing draw requests and general support to our private credit and real estate deal teams. Ms. McKenney previously was employed as an Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Business Development for a publicly traded multinational pharmaceutical and chemical company.

Members of the Keystone Advisory Board are distinguished professionals with significant experience in their respective fields, which include among others investment banking, real estate and corporate management.
Mr. Widmann was previously a principal at the investment banking firm of Tanner & Co., Inc. and a senior managing director of Chemical Securities, Inc., a subsidiary of Chemical Banking Corporation (now JPMorgan Chase). Prior to joining Chemical Securities, Inc., Mr. Widmann was the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of First Reserve Corporation, the largest independent energy investing firm in the United States, and served on the Board of Directors of First Reserve for more than 10 years. Prior to co-founding First Reserve, Mr. Widmann was a senior vice president with the investment banking firm of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, where he was responsible for the firm’s domestic and international investment banking business, and also worked as a trial attorney for the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission. Mr. Widmann is currently the Chairman of Cedar Realty Trust, an NYSE-listed REIT, and is also a Director of Standard Motor Products, a NYSE-listed company. Mr. Widmann is a Senior Moderator of the Aspen Seminar at the Aspen Institute and is a member of the Board of Directors of Oxfam America, a large charity focused on alleviating global poverty.
Mr. La Forgia is a Principal and the Chief Executive Officer of Apertor Hospitality, LLC, a national advisory services firm specializing in the hospitality and gaming industries, which he founded in August 2009. Mr. La Forgia also serves on the Board of Trustees of RLJ Lodging Trust, an NYSE-listed REIT, and is Chairman of the Audit Committee and a member of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. Previously, Mr. La Forgia held a number of leadership positions during his tenure at Hilton Hotels Corporation (currently Hilton Worldwide Holdings, NYSE: HLT). Mr. La Forgia served as the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Accounting Officer of Hilton Hotels Corporation. Mr. La Forgia received a Master’s of Business Administration degree from the Anderson School of Management at the University of California, Los Angeles and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Providence College, where he graduated summa cum laude.
Mr. Hawkins is the Founder and Chief Executive Office of Snap Finance. His deep lending experience, combined with the tightening of credit standards by traditional financial institutions, has allowed him to discern the need for additional financial products by consumers and businesses alike. Mr. Hawkins founded Snap Finance to meet consumer demand for financing goods and services at the point of sale through 10,000+ merchant partners across the country. He also co-founded Snap Advances, a digital merchant finance company that provides working and expansion capital and credit card processing to small and midsize businesses throughout the United States. Mr. Hawkins received a Master’s Degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Brigham Young University.
Mr. Romney is the Managing Director of Sundance Bay, a private real estate investment firm that specializes in the acquisition, improvement and management of multifamily real estate assets in select markets across the United States. Previously, Mr. Romney was a Senior Vice President with Excel Trust, Inc., now a division of Blackstone, where he oversaw various capital markets activities. Mr. Romney serves on the Board of Directors of the Sabin Children’s Foundation, Integrated Oncology Network and Dupuytren Foundation. He received a Master’s of Business Administration degree from the Harvard Business School.
Mr. Fernandez previously served as Senior Portfolio Manager of Alternative Investments and headed private equity investments at the $100+ billion Florida State Board of Administration, the fourth largest public pension fund in the U.S. In his six years at the Board, he managed a private equity portfolio of over $6 billion of committed capital. He was also a member of over 20 private equity fund advisory committees and served as Vice Chairman of the Institutional Limited Partners Association.
He began his career in investment banking with Kidder Peabody & Co.
