Keystone team members and senior advisors possess decades of private markets investment experience. Our team has performed due diligence on hundreds of private market investments and managed over $5 billion in private market commitments throughout their careers. Keystone professionals collaborate and assist one another on transactions, but are also expected to challenge the analysis and conclusions of fellow team members.
Mr. Widmann serves as the Chairman of Keystone. He was previously a principal at the investment banking firm of Tanner & Co., Inc. and a senior managing director of Chemical Securities, Inc., a subsidiary of Chemical Banking Corporation (now JPMorgan Chase).
Prior to joining Chemical Securities, Inc., Mr. Widmann was the CEO and co-founder of First Reserve Corporation, the largest independent energy investing firm in the U.S., and served on the board of First Reserve for over 10 years.
Prior to co-founding First Reserve, he was a senior vice president with the investment banking firm of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, responsible for the firm’s domestic and international investment banking business and also worked as an SEC trial attorney.
Mr. Widmann is currently the Chairman of Cedar Realty Trust, a NYSE-listed REIT, and is also a Director of Standard Motor Products, a NYSE-listed company. Mr. Widmann is a Senior Moderator of the Aspen Seminar at the Aspen Institute, and is a Board member of Oxfam America, a large charity focused on alleviating global poverty.
Mr. Earl is a co-founder of Keystone and Managing Partner of the firm. He is active in investment selection, due diligence, and the general management of the firm. Mr. Earl was previously a senior investment banker with Lehman Brothers. While at Lehman Brothers, Mr. Earl was active in evaluating and executing a broad variety of direct investment opportunities and monetization strategies including initial public offerings, secondary equity offerings, recapitalizations and company sale transactions. Prior to joining Lehman Brothers, Mr. Earl held previous investment banking and structured finance positions at Dillon, Read & Co., Inc. and Credit Suisse.
Mr. Nielson is a co-founder of Keystone and Managing Partner of the firm. He is active in investment selection, due diligence, general firm management, and is a member of Keystone’s investment committee. He was previously Managing Director of Regional Investment Partners, a Dallas-based private equity research firm focused on identifying and benchmarking the nation’s top small and lower-middle market buyout funds.
Mr. Nielson previously served as a Vice President at Partners Group, a global alternatives investment manager which currently has in excess of $20 billion in private equity, private debt, and other alternative investment programs. Based in the firm’s New York office, Mr. Nielson played a key role in building Partners Group’s U.S. presence and in identifying and performing due diligence on U.S. investment opportunities, including buyout fund investments, secondaries, and direct co-investments. He later worked at Partners Group’s headquarters in Switzerland where he helped launch the firm’s Transaction Services business and was active in private equity structuring and fund formation.
Prior to Partners Group, Mr. Nielson worked for the accounting firm KPMG and earned his C.P.A. license.
Mr. Allen is responsible for Keystone’s accounting and legal affairs and oversees the firm’s financial reporting and regulatory compliance. Prior to joining Keystone, Mr. Allen was a corporate securities attorney at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto, California, where he represented public and private companies on corporate governance initiatives and in a broad range of corporate transactions, including venture capital and private equity investments, secured lending, mergers & acquisitions and public offerings.
Mr. Allen previously managed the financial reporting and accounting affairs of an elite language technology and localization service provider. He is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in California and is a member of the State Bar of California and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Chan is a Principal at Keystone and is active in the origination, structuring, and execution of direct credit investments and asset acquisitions. He leads Keystone’s quantitative analysis work on prospective investments and is also involved in the monitoring of portfolio companies.
Prior to joining Keystone, he was a Vice President at Citigroup Global Markets’ Principal Investments and Securitized Products Group, where he made private equity investments in specialty finance companies and executed asset portfolio acquisitions. He began his career in investment banking over fifteen years ago in the Fixed Income and Derivatives Division at Credit Suisse First Boston.
Mr. Johnson manages various financial reporting and accounting functions for the firm. Prior to joining Keystone, Mr. Johnson worked in the assurance practice at Ernst & Young where he focused on public company audit and transactions, including public offerings, spin-offs, shelf-registrations and debt offerings. Mr. Johnson previously managed the accounting affairs of two manufacturing companies and was heavily involved in one company’s successful spin-off. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Fernandez previously served as Senior Portfolio Manager of Alternative Investments and headed private equity investments at the $100+ billion Florida State Board of Administration, the fourth largest public pension fund in the U.S. In his six years at the Board, he managed a private equity portfolio of over $6 billion of committed capital. He was also a member of over 20 private equity fund advisory committees and served as Vice Chairman of the Institutional Limited Partners Association.
He began his career in investment banking with Kidder Peabody & Co.
Mr. Clegg is responsible for various aspects of Keystone’s accounting and financial reporting affairs. Prior to joining Keystone, Mr. Clegg worked as a financial analyst, participating in the underwriting of various real estate investments and overseeing the accounting and reporting functions of a private investment firm. Mr. Clegg also worked in the assurance practice at Deloitte & Touche where he conducted audits on over $2.5 billion in private equity and real estate investments.
Mr. Clegg is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Ms. Larsen manages operations for Keystone and is active in investor reporting and other back-office functions. Prior to Keystone, Ms. Larsen worked in the development office of a large university.
Mr. Buckwalter is a Senior Advisor to Keystone.
Mr. Buckwalter was previously Chairman of J.P. Morgan Chase Bank, South Region, and served as head of the Global Energy and Leveraged Finance Unit within the Banking and Corporate Finance Group of Chemical Bank. He also previously served as Chairman and CEO of Chase Bank of Texas and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.
He currently serves on the Boards of Plains Exploration & Production Company and Service Corporation International, both NYSE listed energy companies. In addition, he is a Board member of the Houston Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors. He currently serves on the boards of The Texas Medical Center; BCM Technologies, Inc., and The Greater Houston Area Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Heston is responsible for various aspects of Keystone’s due diligence, structuring and legal review on real estate related investments. Prior to joining Keystone, he was General Counsel and Director of Acquisitions for a large family office where he managed real estate and private equity investments, including the acquisition of distressed loan portfolios, commercial real estate assets, and other investments. He holds a J.D. from California Western School of Law and a B.S. degree from the University of Utah.
Mr. Jackson is focused on creating value for investors within Keystone’s real estate focused transactions. Mr. Jackson previously served as Vice President with Nearon Enterprises, a private real estate investment firm located in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he was responsible for all aspects of real estate investment including acquisition and debt sourcing, investment due diligence, leasing, asset management and asset disposition. Mr. Jackson was directly responsible for the investment and development of over 1.5 million square feet of Industrial, Office, Retail and Multifamily assets in the San Francisco Bay Area and Salt Lake City markets.
Mr. Winder is responsible for various aspects of Keystone’s accounting and financial reporting affairs. Prior to joining Keystone, Mr. Winder worked in the assurance practice at Deloitte & Touche where he completed audits for both public and private clients within the investment management, life insurance, manufacturing, and public utility industries. Throughout his time at Deloitte & Touche, he conducted audits on over $2 billion in debt and equity investments.
Mr. Winder is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
